Restoring Vintage Images
Restoration of vintage postcards and prints is a paintstaking process. You have to remember that these postcards, prints
and book illustrations are eighty years old and older, with many of them 150 years old or more. Time takes its toll on
paper and ink, fading colors, yellowing, and damage on the edges like little rips and tears. With postcards, the
postmark often bleeds into the front of the postcard over time. So there's a lot of work done to bring them back to life.

Restoring a Postcard
The first thing we do is scan the postcard at 600 dpi. It really takes a while to scan them, but it gets the best
result in the finished restoration.
Our example postcard is badly damaged, with tears, yellowing and fading. We have the additional problem
that the sheen has been worn off part of the postcard and the colors have faded badly.
Each tear and imperfection is hand corrected, matching the original patterning so the fixed areas blend perfectly.
The colors are corrected using various techniques, and the yellowing is filtered out.
As you can see in the card on the right, the card has been restored to its original beauty and vibrancy.
